![]() Did you know that this week is Waste Reduction Week (October 20th to 26th, 2014) in Canada? it's a time when businesses, municipalities and schools across the country spread the waste reduction message and engage their fellow citizens in activities that help to reduce waste and divert it from landfills. Because Ramtech is a small company, we can adopt waste diversion tactics that larger businesses would never be able to entertain. One of those is processing and recycling our K-Cups. Admittedly this takes commitment and unfortunately doesn't eliminate all the waste created by our convenient coffee maker. The outer cup of most K-Cups is #7 plastic (other or mixed) and this can't be recycled. However these little waste reducing measures add up and as the coffee grinds are good for the compost, we continue. With our K-Cups, we recycle the foil lid and soft plastic screen/filter (if present), and compost the grinds and paper filter. Until there's a more environmentally responsible and commonly available material, the outer cup (#7 plastic) is tossed in the garbage. |
